Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd, the operating company of the State’s Integrated Waste Management System (IWMS), was recently named champion of the 9th Sarawak Chief Minister’s Environmental (CMEA) 2019/2020 Award under the Large Enterprise (Services) category.
The 9th CMEA was jointly organised by the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) Sarawak, in collaboration with the Sarawak Business Federation (SBF). The biennial award first held in 2001 is recognised as the premier environmental award for small, medium and large enterprises as well as local authorities, in the State. The 2019/2020 CMEA theme ‘Enhancing Environmental Stewardship’ served as the continuum of the previous theme, ‘Nurturing Environmental Stewardship’.
Trienekens Deputy Group CEO, Elvin Wee was present to receive the award from Chief Minister YAB Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg in the CMEA presentation ceremony held at Imperial Hotel Kuching.
In thanking the Sarawak State Government for recognising the company’s environmental sustainability efforts, Trienekens Group CEO, Stephen Chin said, “We are deeply honoured to receive this prestigious award. It is a significant achievement that highlights our company’s strong commitment and on-going dedication to contribute towards a clean and healthy Sarawak for the people of Sarawak. Receiving this Award is also a reflection of the close cooperation between Trienekens and its stakeholders including the various government agencies, customers and business associates for their on-going guidance and support.”
He elaborated, “In this increasingly environmentally-conscious world, businesses have a growing ethical and moral obligation to protect the environment. We at Trienekens have always worked along this objective – by ensuring our business operations are environmentally sound, promoting green practices to our team members and encouraging our business associates including our contractors, suppliers and customers; to do the same.”
Chin added that with the award, they (Trienekens) were encouraged to work closer with all the relevant agencies and members of the community to deliver better and higher standards of waste management services towards a greener and cleaner future for Sarawak.
