Trienekens Promotes Health With HSE Week

KUCHING: Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd recently held its annual Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Week, this year themed “Healthy Me. Safer Me”. Besides promoting health awareness, the programme also aimed to highlight the importance of continuously maintaining a strong Safety culture at work in order to preserve a workplace free from injuries and incidents. The week-long celebration culminated with a special HSE Day event at the company’s Kuching and Bintulu branches.

Attended by more than 250 employees and invited guests over several sessions, the event’s programme combined interactive demonstrations, games and lectures focussing on safe working habits and healthy living.

In Kuching, guest speaker from Normah Medical Specialist Centre, Dr Tan Sian Kong gave a presentation entitled “Knowing Your Health Status via Blood & Urine Testing”; while Pravin Segaran from the Department of Environment (Sarawak) gave an awareness talk on pollution in urban development. Later, State Health Department representative, Bong Hui Lee also gave a presentation on a guide to balanced diet.

THE BEST… the KIWMP Laboratory was awarded with the “Best Overall Performance in HSE Award”. Senior Process Chemist, Nur Ainiza Zakaria (left) received the award from Trienekens Chief Operating Officer, Alice Lee.

WELL DONE… Senior Executive Administrator, Doreen Lang (centre) received the “Lost-Time Injury Free Achievement Award” on behalf of Trienekens Bintulu Branch from Chief Operating Officer, Alice Lee (right) and Group General Manager, Elvin Wee.

Meanwhile, attendees of the event at Trienekens’ Bintulu Branch attended a talk on accident prevention by the Department of Safety & Health (DOSH) representative, Haznul Rahimy as well as an awareness talk on alcohol abuse and dependence by Hospital Nyabau Bintulu representative, Dr Ravivarma Rao.

Trienekens’ Chief Operating Officer, Alice Lee officiated the event in Kuching and later presented special HSE awards to Trienekens’ outstanding groups and individuals for their past year HSE performance.

While the awards for “Outstanding Safe (Municipal Waste) Team Performance” were presented to Kipli bin Bujang and his team members Johari bin Hop and Hamka bin Su’ud; Sabli bin Ini and his team members Gideon Rimun and Lau Sui Lan; as well as Lohin Lohem and his team members Smith Stephen and Woltern Tomson; Halmai bin Ogik was the proud recipient of the “Outstanding Safe Driving (RoRo) Performance” award. In Bintulu, the individual award for “Outstanding HSE Performance” went to Langi Maling.

From the Kuching Integrated Waste Management Park, Sylvester Lim Heng and Mahedi Henry both received the “Outstanding Safe Performance in Non-Scheduled Waste Operations” awards, while Sa’at bin Bahron and Selin Banyi were presented with the “Outstanding Safe Performance in Scheduled Waste Operations” awards. The awards for “Outstanding Safe Long-Haul Driving Performance” were presented to Jensonray Sepia, Awang Yahya bin Awang Johari and Rosly a/l Jingei.

The top two HSE performance awards – “Lost Time Injury (LTI) Free Achievement” award and the coveted “Best Overall Performance in HSE” award – went to Trienekens’ Bintulu Branch and KIWMP Laboratory respectively.

Trienekens’ sub-contractors were also amongst participants who took part in the day’s activities. “We couldn’t hold an event like this without the full support of our contractors,” said Lee, “Ultimately, we’re all dedicated to achieving the goal of no-harm to people, or ‘Goal Zero’ with regards to safety.” In recognition of achieving Zero Incidents throughout 2015/2016, Petrojadi Sdn Bhd, Innatech Sdn Bhd, Transprompt Logistics and Hexagon Highs Transport Sdn Bhd were presented with Appreciation Awards under the contractors’ category.

Trienekens organises and celebrates its HSE Day annually to recognise, reinforce, improve and strengthen HSE knowledge, understanding and skills among employees, besides providing a platform for information sharing with its customers, business partners and associates.
