Extra bins and early collection services for CNY spring cleaning

KUCHING: With effect from 16th until 26th January 2012, Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn. Bhd. will temporarily allocate about 50 units of additional bins, comprising of 660 litre mobile-garbage-bins and RoRo containers at various “hot-spot” areas in Kuching City in preparation of the upcoming Chinese New Year festival.

In addition to that, Trienekens will also carry out early collection, particularly in areas with Monday and Tuesday collection, starting from from 4.00 a.m. until midnight on the eve of Chinese New Year, 22nd January 2012.

House owners and business operators are reminded to carry out their festive spring cleaning early to avoid any last minute disappointments, delayed collection or spillage of excessive waste.

“The weeks prior to Chinese New Year Day are usually the busiest period as shopping and spring cleaning activities increases,” said Trienekens Division Manager, of Logistics and Services, Sarius Lee. “The additional services are planned annually to ensure that the excessive waste is managed efficiently so residents can celebrate the new lunar year in a clean and healthy environment. Our teams will try their best to keep to the schedule. We are also working very closely with all the councils and ensuring enough bins are provided,” said Lee.

Early collection services will be provided for the following locations:

Residents are urged to take advantage of extra bins and jointly ensure cleanliness in their neighbourhood. Additional waste, which cannot fit into the wheel bin, should be kept inside garbage bags, tied securely and placed next to the bin. Indiscriminate dumping of bulky/garden waste is considered illegal so residents are advised to discard their waste responsibly and with great care.

Bulky or garden waste in DBKU area, however, is not collected by Trienekens as the city council carries out their own collection schedule for such waste. Residents in DBKU areas may call DBKU’s Hotline at 082-444111 for arrangements of collection.

“Another common problem we face is blocked road access to some housing areas due to haphazard parking of vehicles. Hence, we seek the residents’ cooperation to consider the entry of our trucks into their areas so that our team can efficiently clear the waste without interruption,” added Lee.

Lee also reminded residents to keep their bins closed at all times, especially during the rainy season to prevent rain-water from mixing with waste, resulting in leachate. Residents are also advised to drain out any form of liquid such as soup or gravy from their kitchen waste before discarding the refuse into bins.

As for substantial amounts of green waste, bulky waste or construction waste, residents can contact Trienekens HOTLINE or Customer Care for disposal services at a reasonable fee.

Trienekens’ Hotline 082-612300 operating hours will also be extended from 8.00 a.m. to 12.00 midnight on 22nd January 2012 to receive enquiries or requests from the public.
