Trienekens Supports ‘GO BALD’ Campaign

Kuching, Thursday, 16/05/2010.
Hair loss is the least physically harmful side effect of cancer treatment. However, it can also be the most traumatic and horrifying experience, especially for children. Following last year’s successful debut of its “GO BALD” campaign, the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) is back this year with “GO BALD-er”, slated to be held this 16 May at The Spring shopping complex.
“GO BALD” aims to support children cancer patients by letting them know that their baldness is just a temporary setback on the road to recovery. The campaign calls for members of the community to collectively shave their heads in a public show of solidarity with cancer patients and their families.
Last year, the event raised more than RM200,000 in pledges and donations. SCCS’s goal this year, beyond raising awareness of childhood cancer and offering moral support, is to raise RM1 million for the construction of a new SCCS centre in the hopes of providing better care and support to cancer patients.
In support of the cause, Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn. Bhd. recently donated RM3000 to the campaign. Besides the company’s donation, employees also made personal contributions, while Trienekens staff Gary Speldewinde, Ahmad Faizal, Christo Michael, Geoji Jusua, Mohd Najmuddin Hafiz and Doncuster Edward volunteered to join in the campaign in having their heads shaved come Sunday.
The charitable move was one of the many community activities carried out under Trienekens’ corporate social responsibility event calendar, which above all aims to foster a sense of care and responsibility towards the community by all Trienekens employees.
