Trienekens Celebrates Earth Day with Media

16/05/2010

Kuching, Thursday, 16/05/2010.
Greening the Earth, Conserving Our Environment was the theme echoed in Trienekens’ inaugural Amazing Green Hunt event. Held in conjunction with the recent international Earth Day celebrations, Trienekens, as the leading environmental services provider and operator of Sarawak’s integrated solid waste management system, took the initiative to bring Earth Day’s global messages and awareness to the local front through the organizing of the company’s media appreciation event.

The hunt, which was held at the Sama Jaya Nature Reserve Park, focused on raising environmental awareness through a series of competitive but fun and exciting enviro-based activities including tree-plantings, tree labeling, recycling, quizzes and more, on top of other more physically driven activities. Organized by Trienekens’ Public Relations Department, The Amazing Green Hunt was also supported by the Sarawak Forestry Corporation.

“While we wanted to organize a fun day for members of the press as a token of our appreciation for their continuous support, we also wished to create an event that would drive awareness to the Earth Day causes. Knowing how the media can help bring greater awareness to the mass public about the pressures our earth is currently facing and how we, as a community can work together in protecting and preserving our precious natural resources, we came up with The Amazing Green Hunt,” said Julan Yu Abit, Trienekens’ Department Manager, Public Relations.

Deputy Minister of Tourism Datuk Dr. James Dawos Mamit, who flagged-off some ten participating teams including two Trienekens teams on the event day, praised Trienekens for putting together the event which brought the staff and members of the press closer together while creating awareness on the importance of nature and the need to preserve it.

A prize-giving dinner was held at the Sarawak Club where Trienekens Executive Chairman Jurgen Pickenhagen presented the winning teams with their prizes. While Trienekens’ Kuching Integrated Waste Management Park (KIWMP) team emerged champion and received the RM1500 cash prize, Utusan Sarawak and Borneo Post teams took home the second and third prizes of RM1200 and RM600 respectively. The RM300 consolation prizes went to teams from TheSundayPost and Eastern Times.
