Kuching: Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn. Bhd., recently received a special visit by the Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Musa bin Haji Aman at the Kuching Integrated Waste Management Park (KIWMP) in Mambong. The visit included a familiarization tour of KIWMP by the Chief Minister to learn first-hand information about Sarawak’s environmental management efforts, particularly on the management of municipal and hazardous waste.
“We are honoured to have Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Musa visit us for the first time and this is a great opportunity for us to explain the stringent processes and operations involved in disposing of municipal and scheduled waste,” said Trienekens’ Executive Chairman, Mr. Jurgen Pickenhagen. “The facility was designed and developed with the purpose of eliminating any possible environmental degradation or risks arising from the process of handling all types of waste” he added.
The Park receives, treats and disposes of municipal and scheduled waste from all over Sarawak and has four main components namely; a sanitary landfill (for municipal waste), a secure landfill (which caters for pre-treated scheduled and hazardous waste), a state-of-the-art leachate water treatment plant, and an incineration plant for the thermal treatment and disposal of scheduled hazardous waste in all forms, including clinical and pathological waste. All four operating units are fully licensed by the Department of Environment (DoE), as is the Stabilization Plant (for the pre-treatment of scheduled waste destined for the secure landfill).
