Kuching – Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn. Bhd. have been actively carrying out a series of Chinese New Year spring cleaning activities since early January which included the provisions of additional bins at major town areas, clearing of illegal dumpsites, providing extra collection and extending collection hours in order to handle the expected excessive waste.

“All of our trucks have been on the road for up to 16 hours a day and on the eve of the festival, our teams will be working on double shifts,” explained Trienekens’ Logistic Manager, Mr. Elvin Wee. “During this time of the year, we collect up to 900 tonnes of household waste a day which is double the volume collected on any normal day,” he said.

“Our annual spring cleaning activities have been very successful in the past years. We expect the same to happen this year, especially with much assistance from the general public so that everyone can celebrate the festival in a clean and healthy environment. Our recent promotion on collection of bulky waste has also been successful as all of our containers are fully booked,” he said.

“Unfortunately, we note that in some commercial areas, the collection services are not as good as we wish it to be. This is due to roads being heavily congested and blocked in most commercial centers as well as wastes are being disposed of improperly. However, we would come back to such areas later in the day, once we can access them with our truck,” Mr. Wee elaborated.

Increased shopping activities in areas such as Padungan, MJC, BDC, Tabuan Jaya, Central Park, Abell Road and other similar areas have created a cluttered situation compared to normal days and Trienekens finds that in the hive of shopping activities, some people do not throw their waste or use the bins properly.

“They either resorted to putting the wastes next to the empty bins or dumping it elsewhere,” Mr. Wee revealed. “Keeping the city clean is obviously a joint effort and we require the public’s cooperation to enable us to render good and satisfactory services to the community.”

Trienekens encourages the public to call and notify them of any irregularities their areas. The public can call Trienekens’ Customer Service or HOTLINE at 082-422 515 (Kuching) or 086-253 959 for Bintulu.
