Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn. Bhd., today announced that the company is going to introduce its latest model of compactor truck to the public. The first three units shall serve the Majlis Bandararaya Kuching Selatan (MBKS), Dewan Bandaraya Kuching Utara (DBKU) and Majlis Perbandaran Padawan (MPP) areas respectively. Five more additional trucks are expected to arrive before year end.

To start with, one of the new trucks shall start servicing areas with high population and commercial activities located in and around the city centre, BDC and 3rd Mile areas beginning next week.

According to Trienekens Managing Director, Mr. Gerhard Aulbert, the purchase of the new trucks is part of the company’s long term continuous improvement plan to upgrade the capacity of its collection fleet and ensure that the efficiency of its collection services is enhanced periodically for the benefit of the public and cleanliness of Kuching City.

The advantages of the compactor truck, a ten-wheeler with air suspension lift axle include:
• A maximum load up to 15 tonnes of solid waste compared to the present trucks which can only take in about 10 tonnes of waste.
• The truck is fitted with an automatic bin lifter which allows for faster and efficient door-to-door collection time.
• The lifter is also lower, enabling it to lift bigger size bins containing bulky wastes from sites with high volume of bulky wastes.
• It has an additional leachate tank that can store up to 300litre of excessive waste water from inside the compactor truck which will prevent it from spilling to the roads and causing foul smell.
• The truck is also fitted with body/tailgate seal, which minimizes fluid loss and overflowing during collection of wet waste.
• Despite its bigger capacity, the truck body is 15cm shorter in length compared to the older trucks, allowing easier maneuvering in narrow roads.
• The compaction system also operates more quietly and efficiently while using lesser power. It generates lesser noise which is a special advantage when collecting household waste at residential areas.
• The smoke emission is at a low and safe level, allowing the collection process to be clean and pollution-free.

CLEANER COLLECTION…A general side views of the new compactor truck for collection of municipal waste.

These technologies, in general, contribute to higher operational efficiency and better handling of the solid waste from the point of collection. This, in turn, with support and strong cooperation from the public to maintain a good level of waste management habits, shall result in better quality of living for all city residents and cleanliness of our environment.

A simple briefing for the press was held at the MBKS foyer this morning followed by a short demonstration on the bin lifter system. Present at the briefing were MBKS Mayor James Chan, council’s Department Heads and Councilors.
