Trienekens Doing all it can to Clear Post-flood and Festive Waste at Same Time

Friday, 23/01/2009, Kuching

FLOOD WASTES: Trienekens collection team clearing the wastes caused by the flood at Kpg Selangan Batu.

Since the flood hit the city more than a week ago, Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn. Bhd. had to clear about 15 to 18 tonnes average of solid wastes in one affected area at a time, which took the teams about two days to complete. Earlier in the week, the waste collection service in the city was also disrupted due to the flood and Trienekens has been doing its best to recover its services in the affected areas while carrying out its CNY spring cleaning activities at the same time.

“Right after the flood subsided, many calls and enquiries were received from the public regarding the excessive wastes brought by the flood in their areas. Our teams have been busy clearing the aftermath for the past two weeks and to this date, we have managed to clean the areas progressively with assistance from the local councils and residents. In areas where space permits, we engaged heavy machineries to load the wastes. We are trying our best to expedite the services as we understand the various problems faced by the affected residents.” explained Mr. Elvin Wee, Trienekens’ Logistics and Services Manager.

“The flood waste was definitely unexpected as our company was just starting to kick start the spring cleaning programme to manage the CNY festive wastes. The amount now has tripled and exceeded the normal volume we usually deal with every day. Due to this, our collection teams have to spend longer time collecting and clearing all the wastes and debris in one area and this might inevitably cause some delay in collection services of the other areas,” said Wee.

The company is constantly communicating with DBKU and MBKS to ensure that none of the services in these areas are overlooked. As requested by some of the councils, Trienekens has also placed additional RoRo containers in some highly affected areas to cope with the mounting post-flood as well as festive wastes.

“As the festive celebration approaches around the corner, we are expecting more wastes to be generated by the public and we are arranging for additional man hours and bins to manage them. Hence, we hope that the public can bear with us temporarily during this extra ordinary time and we work positively together to ensure that all the wastes are cleared within the coming weeks,” said Wee.

Trienekens also appeal for public co-operation to use their wheel bins for wastes disposal and to pack all wastes in proper garbage bags. For additional wastes, which cannot fit into the wheel bin, should also be tied-up in garbage bags (for green wastes such as branches to be cut and tied up neatly) and placed next to the bin. Household residents are urged not to indiscriminately dump their bulky/garden waste at housing back lanes or in nearby thick bushes as such acts are considered illegal dumping.

Trienekens’ collection teams will be working on a Sunday shift during Chinese New Year Eve (25th January) from 8.00a.m. until midnight so that residents in MBKS, MPP and part of DBKU jurisdiction can dump their municipal wastes from the Chinese New Year preparation into their wheel bins on this particular day. The Trienekens’ Hotline 082-612300 operation hours will also be extended from 8.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. on 25th January 2009 to receive enquiries or requests from the public. Trienekens Bintulu Branch will also be carrying double shift collection on the same day and Bintulu residents can call the Branch’s Hotline 086-253959 for more information.

Any information or feedback from the public on excess wastes spotted around Kuching and Bintulu are most welcomed.
