Trienekens and Smart Reader® Worldwide organizes environmental awareness campaign

A total of 70 pre school students from five Smart Reader Kids® centres took part in a joint environmental awareness campaign in Pustaka Negeri Sarawak today.

The event was jointly organised by the operator of the Integrated Solid Wastes Management System (ISWMS) in Sarawak, Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd and Malaysia’s largest child’s enrichment centre, Smart Reader® Worldwide Sdn Bhd as well as Aim Smart™ Academics Sdn Bhd.

The joint environmental awareness programme by the two companies was held for the first time today at the State Library, Petra Jaya. Themed as “Caring for the Environment, Let’s Manage Our Wastes Wisely”, the event was attended by the students and parents of the Smart Reader Kids programme, namely from the SRK® Chong Hin Garden, SRK® Jalan Keretapi, SRK® Semariang, SRK® Tabuan Jaya Baru 2 and SRK® Lee Ling Commercial Centre.

The Guest of Honour at the event was the Assistant Controller of the Natural Resources and Environment Board, Sarawak, En Peter Sawal who represented the Controller, Dr Penguang Manggil.

The objectives of the significant collaboration are to inculcate a strong, good attitude and behaviour in managing solid wastes amongst children and to garner increased appreciation towards healthy environment, cleanliness and beautiful landscape.

The young children were also encouraged to learn about ways to prevent littering, indiscriminate dumping, good maintenance of bins or disposal facilities including the 3R concept.
The main highlights of the event programme included the “Making New out Old” Recycling Competition between the five SRK® Centres, Golden Rules Recitation called “Protecting Our Environment” by the pre-schoolers as well as special song and dance performances. Students, parents and teachers also have the opportunity to visit and learn more about the environment through the games and exhibition booths set up by the Natural Resources and Environment Board, Sarawak, DBKU, Heart Treasure Gallery, Trienekens and Aim SmartTM Academics Sdn. Bhd..

The event was also attended by Smart Reader® Worldwide Sdn. Bhd. Unit Head for Public Relations Tengku Azrawati binti Tengku Arshad, MPP Head for Public Cleansing, Mr. Chong Vui Kuet, and DBKU Head of Environmental Health represented by Mr. Desmond Leo.
