Federal Natural Resources And Environment Minister Dato Sri Adenan Satem has complimented the Sarawak government for adopting a safe and reliable management system for scheduled wastes from industries.
He said that through the Kuching Integrated Waste Management Park in Mambong, the toxic scheduled wastes were not only disposed of safely but also managed in a manner that no adverse affects were inflicted on the environment and the surrounding areas.
“As we become more industrialized, we have to prevent greater pollution to the environment by adopting technologies that make the disposal of wastes safe.”
“In this respect, I compliment Trienekens for creating this technology, and especially the State government for taking the first step in pioneering the use of this technology,” he said at the launching of the Integrated Corporate Services For Scheduled Waste Management In Sarawak last night.
Adenan pointed out that by making a well-functioning waste management infrastructure the basis of a future-oriented industrial and growth policy, the State government had been forward-thinking in its planning and direction.
“As a former State Minister, I know that the State government is planning not only for today and tomorrow but also for all the days after tomorrow,” said Adenan, who was the State Agriculture and Food Industries Minister prior to his current appointment.
He stressed that as wastes especially from industries were becoming more toxic, they had to be properly disposed of and managed. The wastes, he added, should not be dumped in the rivers, buried in the earth or burnt in the open as these would cause short term and long-term effects.
The launching of the Integrated Corporate Services For Scheduled Waste Management last night marked another significant milestone in the efforts of the State government and Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd to introduce a highly effective solution for all scheduled waste generators.
The services are targeted at waste generators in Sarawak, from small and medium sized industries (SMIs) to Free Industrial Zones (FIZ) organizations to the multinational oil and gas industry.
The services range from Collection, Transportation and Disposal packages to Total Waste Management Concepts that include a wide range of services like supply of packaging materials, on-site-waste handling and final disposal at the Kuching Integrated Waste Management Park. The park was declared opened by the Chief Minister Pehin Sri Dr.Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud on March 11.
Rebecca Trienekens, the managing partner of Germany-based Trienekens GmbH, said the services would make Trienekens truly one-stop agency for the waste management needs.
“I want to thank the honourable Chief Minister for his forward-looking planning and direction which created the basic necessary to complete this project,” she said.
Trienekens, an International renowned and established environment solutions and waste management company, has invested RM95 million in joint venture with Sarawak since 1998.
Present last night were State Secretary Datuk Amar Abdul Husain, National Resources and Environment Board (NREB) deputy chairman, Dr.James Dawos Mamit, Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd chairman Jurgen Pickenhagen and Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd managing director, Joerg Domroes.
