Department of National Solid Waste Management Visits Trienekens’ Operations

Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn. Bhd., today received a special visit from the Directors and Officials of the Department of National Solid Waste Management, Kuala Lumpur. The group is led by the Director-General of Public Private Partnership, Dato’ Dr. Ali Hamsa. The Department comes under the purview of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, Malaysia.
The team of officials is on a study visit to understand and learn the methods of solid waste collection using the Mobile Garbage Bins (MGB) implemented under the Integrated Solid Waste Management System (ISWMS) in Kuching City. Presently, Trienekens collects municipal wastes under jurisdictions and authority of the three local councils namely, MPP, MBKS and DBKU.

“We are pleased to welcome the officials from the Department today and share with them our experiences here in Kuching,” said Trienekens Logistics and Services Manager, Elvin Wee. “Kuching’s integrated solid waste collection system has been in place for over ten years now and so far, it is proven to be one of the most successful systems in the country. We are proud to share the knowledge with the Department as they prepare to upgrade the solid waste management system in Peninsular Malaysia. It is great opportunity to learn from one another.”
During the visit, the team of officials went to the streets to witness and observe up close, the collection services being carried out by the Trienekens’ Logistics and Services team. Prior to that, an operational briefing was provided by the Trienekens’ Management Team at the company’s head office as a short introduction to the background and structure of the solid waste management system.
Other members of the visiting group included officers and representatives from the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, Departments of Solid Waste Management and DANIDA-Solid Waste Management Component.
